FC Halifax Town fell to a 1-0 home defeat to fellow Yorkshire side Harrogate Town. A single goal from Mark Beck, at The Shay gave the North Yorkshire side all three points.

A slow start set the tone of the game as both sides struggled to create many clear chances, and at the death Beck popped up to claim the win for the away side.

After 15 minutes, the Shaymen had a good chance to open the scoring. After a short period of possession, Jerome Binnom-Williams took a quick throw which eventually fell to Charlie Cooper. After making a bit of space he curled a shot at goal which went narrowly wide of a post.

Straight up the other end and Harrogate had chance of their own. After the Shaymen failed to clear, Alex Bradley picked up the ball. He sent in a curling shot which forced Sam Johnson to push it wide.

A bit of scramble ensued on the 27-minute mark after Binnom-Williams made a good run into the box, playing a low ball into Tobi Sho-Silva. He held it up before laying off to Liam McAlinden who shot straight at the keeper, with the ball falling to King. His shot was blocked out to Cooper on the edge of the box, who won a free kick. McAlinden took it and fired a low but it was well saved by the feet of James Belshaw.

Harrogate went closest to scoring in the half as they hit the bar. After a short spell of possession, the ball came to Warren Burrell. After a good turn, he blasted a shot towards goal which hit the frame of the goal. Michael Duckworth was well placed to clear the rebound.

The away fans were celebrating shortly after, however the assistant referee cut the jubilation short as Harrogateโ€™s effort was ruled out for offside. Brendan Kiernan carried the ball into the box for the visitors and his shot was well saved. It came back to George Smith who put the ball into the back of the net, only to turn around and see the assistantโ€™s flag in the air.

After a slow start to the second-half, Town created the periodโ€™s first chance. A good through-ball fell to McAlinden but his stinging shot was blocked by a defender and went out for a throw. Duckworth then found space but his shot was also blocked by a yellow shirt.

Both sides struggled to create chances in the second-half thereafter. Some good work from Danny Williams gave Duckworth the ball, who again had an attempt on goal. A well-struck shot forced Belshaw to push it wide for a corner.

Halifax went very close 15 minutes from full-time. A ball out wide found substitute Dayle Southwell, who drove forward. He cut it back to fellow substitute Cameron King, who fired a shot towards goal. Belshaw was at full stretch as it went narrowly over the bar.

Town were by now pushing for the winner, and won another corner. McAlinden put it in towards the back-post where Belshaw spilled before Binnom-Williams struck; his effort deflected in the six-yard box for another corner. Again, McAlinden put in a dangerous cross but it flicked off Clarke and away.

With just three minutes to go, Harrogate got the winner. A good run down the right saw a low ball into the box. The Shaymen failed to get it away as it came to Beck. After a blocked first shot, the ball somehow fell at the feet of the striker who managed to stab home.

Whilst the win moves Harrogate climb to 14th, the Shaymen retain their place in the leagueโ€™s top two.
