FC Halifax Town lost 1-0 on their first trip back to Notts County in 46 years. After the game Shaymen TV caught up with midfielder Liam Nolan to discuss his view on the game at Meadow Lane.

“It was a tough game with a big crowd in on a big pitch. I thought we started really well in the first half, we contained them well. Then in the second half, they got the man sent off early. Then from there we just stopped playing, they got the goal and just saw the game off.”

Speaking off that sending off, Nolan noticed tensions were rising and that challenges were getting stronger.

“There was a few bad tackles and yellow cards for both teams, as well as the crowd getting going as well. I think it was good to get in at half time and then the plan was more of the same. But that didn’t happen so that’s disappointing.

“On the ball we just tried to force it a little bit against 10 men. We should have took our time with it, play the ball and be patient. We had 40 minutes to go win the game.

Nolan had a good view of the challenge on his new midfield partner Charlie Cooper, which lead to Michael Doyle seeing a straight red.

“I was close to it and do think it was a red card. He did win the ball first but, he has gone straight over the top and could have broke his leg, it was a career ending tackle. The right decision was made to send him off.”

Next up for The Shaymen is Barnet down at The Shay, with Town looking to get back to winning ways.

“It’ll be another tough game, another side that is long come down from the football league themselves. They have ambitions of wanting to go up, so it will be no easy game. That’s two defeats on the bounce now for us, we need to regroup and get another win on the board.”
