FC Halifax Town drew 0-0 at the MBI Shay Stadium with Salford City with Jamie Fullarton’s men unlucky not to have taken all three points.
Shaymen TV spoke to Nathan Clarke after the game and got his thoughts on the stalemate draw.
“It was a really good game today and it was a good 0-0 to be involved in. We felt that we pushed them all the way and with a little bit more confidence in certain areas we go on and get the win but it wasn’t to be. We dug in, defended well and created some half decent chances ourselves.”
“I think we were unlucky not to get the three points. We’ve got to be happy with the 0-0 against a team that are fighting for promotion and we’ve certainly matched them and held our own. We created good chances and possibly a bit unlucky not to put them away.”
That’s two 0-0 draws in the league in a row for the Shaymen with Clarke saying his team were unlucky not to win.
“It is frustrating that we didn’t score. We were getting in really good positions, certainly Kosy (Matty Kosylo) and Quigs (Scott Quigley) getting in some really good positions. Just looking for that final touch, which everyone is looking for really, not just us wanting that prolific striker that can bag you a load of goals. We’ve certainly got the quality in there, possibly lacking a little bit of confidence.”
But with not scoring in the 0-0’s Halifax have been keeping clean sheets with Clarke praising his sides defensive displays.
“From the team, not just the back four. It starts from Quigs, hustling and bustling up top and not giving free headers away. But certainly, the back four and midfield have grafted well against a team that are up there, and rightly so. They’ve got some good players but I felt we matched them and defensively I thought Browny (Matty Brown) was outstanding and Skarzy (Joe Skarz) had another good game.”
Clarke then spoke on the quality next to him on the pitch, in the shape of club captain, Matty Brown.
“I feel as though we have a solid partnership. I’ve played with a lot of really good centre-halves, some top top defenders and I’ve said to him he’s certainly up there. He reads the game very well, he’s not just a big lump that can head it and clear it. He’s a good captain for the club. He talks everybody through the game and that’s what you want in a captain and it certainly sets the tempo for the lads.”
Halifax now don’t play until the 9thof February with a break from action, we asked Clarke on how that will affect the team.
The break can work either way. We’ll spend some time on the training pitch working on certain areas and gives the people who have not been playing a chance to get some fitness. Hopefully, it’ll be a positive thing for us.
