FC Halifax Town claimed a deserved three points after beating Harrogate Town 2-1 away.
Goals from Nathan Clarke and Dayle Southwell were enough to defeat the Yorkshire rivals as they head back to Halifax as the victors.
Southwell got the winning goal and spoke to the official website to give his thoughts on the game.
He said: โDelighted. Obviously, we havenโt won many games away from home this season in the league and to do it against a derby team and on Boxing Day is brilliant. I thought the lads were excellent and even in the first half, I thought we played well, we were unlucky to go behind. Second half we really came out and showed what we are about.โ
Southwellโs goal came in the 88th minute as he delighted the travelling fans with a good finish into the bottom corner. The striker was obviously happy with his goal as he celebrated in front of the fans.
He said: โIn a derby game in front of the away fans, the support was brilliant today. So, it was a great feeling.โ
Southwell went into the box with the defender trying to clear his lines, but the clearance fell back to him and he struck home. Southwell was grateful for the defenderโs mistake having had several chances earlier in the game.
He said: โI had a loose touch which the defender didnโt see coming, he ricocheted it back to me and it just fell nicely. I just volleyed it straight into the bottom corner. It was probably my hardest chance of the game.โ
With Halifax recording their first win in five league games, Southwell was delighted with result. He acknowledged the affect the result on the team.
He said: โIt shows we can do it against the best in this league. We know we have to do it on a more consistent basis now.โ
Halifax look forward to facing Gateshead away on Saturday. A game that Southwell is confident the team can get another result.
He said: โWeโre feeling confident. Itโs good to get a win away from home and weโre boosted because we havenโt been doing that enough this season. So, now we go there full of confidence.โ
Video interviews will return on Saturday with the trip to Gateshead.
