FC Halifax Town booked their place in the 2nd round of the FA Trophy with a 2-1 away victory against fellow Vanarama National League side Barrow AFC.
Jamie Fullarton gave a start to midfielder James Ferry, who was announced ahead of kick-off at the Furness Building Society Stadium.
He also named Michael Duckworth and Ben Tomlinson on the bench following their recent injuries.
The weather in Cumbria was awful with the cold, wind and rain affecting the game for everyone in attendance, with the wind for the Shaymen in the first half Town went into the half time break ahead.
Town forced a number of corners and it was Captain Matty Brown who capitalised on one of them from Jordan Preston heading home to put the Shaymen ahead.
In the second half, Barrow were the team with the wind assistance and they had chances to equalise with the woodwork being hit on a number of occasions. However it was Matty Brown who gave them their equaliser.
Sam Johnson had parried a shot and Brown’s header was over Johnson and into the bottom corner of the net.
It looked like a replay would be needed on Tuesday night, however substitute Jonathan Edwards shot hit Tomlinson and went into the net leaving Firth stranded.
The Shaymen are back in action on Tuesday night with the visit of Boreham Wood to the Shay, 7.45pm kick-off.
