Good afternoon-ish, and welcome to you all. Wimbledon and the FA Cup! The AFC version may be a relatively new incarnation, but I have fond memories of the original club. Due to the Shaymen suffering postponements, I was in attendance for their 1974-75 games at Burnley and Leeds, even attending the Leeds replay at Selhurst Park. I bet there aren’t many current fans can claim that!
Moving on to Supporters Club matters, we are looking to have an evening of Pig Racing (whatever this is) in conjunction with Southowram CC sometime in the new year. Details will be given as and when the function is arranged. One already confirmed date for your diaries is the annual Race Night at the Belgrave Social Club, Claremount Road. This will be held on Friday March 8th.
This of course is the night before our sponsorship of the Ebbsfleet match, for which we continue to negotiate prices with FCHT. We will relate this information when agreement has been reached.
Now a further extract from the “Halifax Town AFC Official History Handbook 1892 to 1922/3” This is the first part of the section entitled “Official Recognition”:
The season 1901/2 saw the formation of many more local clubs, and at last it seemed as if a real footing had been gained in Halifax. The first president of the “soccer” club, Dr CH Whitcomb, accepted the similar position in the new league, and with many wholehearted enthusiasts gathered around him, he soon began to make things hum. This season, the local final took place on St Augustine’s ground, the contestants being Mytholmroyd and Sowerby Bridge, the former winning 3-0. The referee on this occasion was Mr J Chapman, secretary of the West Yorkshire FA. The gate was £5 10s. At the commencement of this season, a handsome presentation in the shape of a clock was made to the secretary of the League.
