Following Saturday’s 2-1 away loss to Havant & Waterlooville, FC Halifax Town’s official website spoke to Niall Maher to get his views on the game

He said: “It was a game of 2 halves, in the first half we’ve done well and kept ourselves in the game. But we know the first 15 minutes of the second half weren’t good enough.”

Conceding a goal early in the second half game change the game but Maher believes the experience the squad has should’ve have seen them rectify the issue.

He said: “We’ve got some big characters in the dressing room, there’s enough experience in there to sort it out, we’ve just got to rectify that and put it right for next time, so it doesn’t happen again.”

Maher netted the only goal of the game for the Shaymen in the 79th minute to give Town that they could go on to get something from the game.

He said: “We didn’t have that many shots in the game and I thought ‘well the opportunities there, take it.’ Obviously, the keepers had a flap at it, but I’ll take it.”

Hawks defender Will Wood was sent off in the 93rd minute following an off the ball incident and Maher believes that this should’ve given them a penalty instead of the corner.

He said: “I thought the decision could’ve gone over to a penalty, it’s happened inside the box, but it shouldn’t take 15 minutes and 2 goals down to get us going in the second half and we’ve got to put that right and kick on and we’ve got FA Cup next week and hopefully we can get something there.”

Looking ahead to next week’s fixture that sees Town travel away to Morecambe for the 1st round of the FA Cup, Maher believes that preparations won’t be affected by the result.

He said: “Preparations will be no different, back in next week and the main focus is Morecambe in the FA Cup, it puts the league aside for a week and hopefully we can go there knock a big team out.”
