FC Halifax Town secured an away trip to Morecambe in the FA Cup first round after a 2-0 win over Warrington Town. Jordan Preston’s freak corner, along with a Dayle Southwell strike in the second half was enough to advance the Shaymen into the next round.

Warrington we’re on the backfoot from the start as Town looked for the early lead. It came through Jordan Preston, but in an unlikely fashion. Preston’s corner from the left side managed to sneak its way into the bottom corner to set the Shaymen on their way.

It was one-way traffic their after. Preston fed through Jonathan Edwards on goal to set him up one-on-one with the keeper but can’t get the ball on target as it’s prodded wide of the mark.

Preston again sparked a counter down the right flank moments later. His strength allowing him to get around Alex Whittle to find Matty Kosylo. The dangerman was unable to convert as it deflected wide of the mark.

Dayle Southwell threatened multiple times before his second-half finish. Jacob Hanson’s neat manoeuvres down the right looked a threat as he linked up with Southwell, but the striker couldn’t convert.

Southwell put on his dancing shoes soon after as he tricked his way around 4 players, firing at an acute angle to the keepers right. The angle proved a little two tight in the end though, allowing Goalkeeper Anthony McMillan to save.

Tony Gray, who scored in Saturdays original fixture came closest for the visitors. His curled effort after neat control outside the box tested Sam Johnson’s net, but the keeper comfortably saved.

Town could’ve scored a few chances throughout if not for some last ditch defending from Warrington. Southwell and Kosylo both had efforts cleared off the oppositions goal line, as Halifax looked to gain that second crucial goal.

It was that man Southwell who claimed it in the second half. Kosylo combined well with the striker, allowing him to beat his man and fire the Shaymen into the FA Cup first round.
