FC Halifax Town suffered a 3-0 defeat away at Aldershot Town. The defeat saw the Shaymen slide down to 13th in the table.

Captain Nathan Clarke gave us his thoughts of the Halifax’s 5th defeat of the season.

“Not good enough from the team, nowhere near what we produced in previous games and we need to improve as soon as possible.”

As the rain had been coming down all day it’s fair to say that play was affected, however, Nathan Clarke was adamant that the weather was not a contributing factor to the poor performance.

“The conditions are the conditions, I’ve played in various conditions and you get on with it. It’s the same cliché, it’s the same for both teams so we need to not blame anything, and I think we’ve got to look at ourselves.”

Clarke believes that due various suspensions and injuries, this game was an opportunity for other players to step up as he said:

“We’ve had 2 big characters out of the team and it was a chance for people to step up and show the manager what they’re worth and to keep hold of the shirt.”

Throughout the game Halifax had chances to get goals and Clarke acknowledged that on another day they would have gone in.

“Although we conceded the goals we did, I think I had a chance with a header that just went wide, I think there was a shout for a penalty and like you say in the first half there was 1 or 2 that on another day had we played the right ball and it’s an opportunity for us but it wasn’t to be.”

Looking forward to next Saturday and the home game against Chesterfield Clarke believes that this is another opportunity to get some much-needed points against a struggling Chesterfield side.

“They’ll be another tough challenge they’ve been struggling initially they’ve been hoping to turn that round themselves. But it’s a chance for us to go and put on a proper performance.”

Finally, Clarke acknowledged the support the team gets and accepts that recent have been good enough as he said:

“I know the traveling fans who have backed us there and clapped us off. We need to give them something to start cheering about now and really get behind us as recent performances haven’t done that.”
