A dismal day on FC Halifax Town’s travels after they were defeated 3-0 at York Road against Maidenhead United. Three goals came in the first half from Josh Kelly (2) and Adrian Clifton

It was not the start FC Halifax Town wanted when they came into the game as they went 1-0 down to an early game from the dangerous Josh Kelly. The ball was whipped to the back post and the ball found Josh Kelly where he headed the ball against the post and into the net.

Maidenhead continued to threaten and were taking corners as an advantage as they gained a few chances with Obileye coming closing by heading just wide passed the post.

Another chance came and went for Maidenhead as Josh Kelly was sent through and he rounded Sam Johnson, but Johnson recovered well, and Kelly couldn’t find the net as the ball was deflected wide.

18 minutes on the clock and Maidenhead made it two. The danger man again Josh Kelly was the man with the assist this time after he played the ball to Adrian Clifton who was six yards out and made no mistake finding the net.

The game wasn’t getting any better for FC Halifax Town with Matty Brown nearly putting the ball in his own net after an attempted heading clearance resulting in a corner for Maidenhead.

Maidenhead stayed in control of the game and Adrian Clifton had a great chance to make it three and get his second of the game after his volley outside the area was just wide.

The Shaymen’s day got worse and worse as they made it three. The ball was sent forward, and it was that man again Josh Kelly one on one with Sam Johnson and he made no mistake by placing the ball into the net to make it a disastrous first half for the Shaymen.

The first real chance for the Shaymen came just before half time with Jordan Preston taking a shot at Maidenhead’s keeper Pentney, it turned out to be a routine save for the keeper and FC Halifax Town had to come out of the blocks in the second half if they wanted to take something from this game.

A static start for FC Halifax Town in the second half as they tried to push forward but were struggling to break down Maidenhead.

The first chance of the second half came to the feet of Jordan Preston as he was in a pile of space and went for a shot at goal, but it was unfortunately deflected by Obileye and the ball was sent out for a throw in.

A penalty shout for Odelusi could’ve brought FC Halifax Town back into the game but the referee disagreed with the decision as he seemed to do all day when it came to penalty calls.

The Shaymen were trying their best to get attempts on goal. The chance came for Niall Maher on a free kick, he decided to go for goal to try and give the Shaymen a glimmer of hope, but his attempt was just over the bar.

FC Halifax Town best chance of the game fell to Nathan Clarke from a corner as his header was cleared off the line from Massey.

the Shaymen kept coming forward but it just wasn’t their day as we couldn’t finish the limited chances we had to get back into the game. Maidenhead defender Ayo Obileye ruined his day by bringing down Jonny Edwards and he was given a second yellow card and was sent off by the referee.

Not the result FC Halifax Town wanted, and we drop down to 9th place in the National League. But we move onto the next game where we entertain Hartlepool United at the MBI Shay Stadium.
