FC Halifax Town are top of the table after a comfortable 3-0 victory over Maidstone United at the MBi Shay Stadium. With goals from Dayle Southwell Ben Tomlinson and Cameron King. Towns dominate display secured their third victory in as many games.

In front of 1,534 fans on a mild Saturday at the start of august Halifax never looked like conceding and was in control for the majority of the 90 minutes. After a quick start from Halifax it wasnโ€™t until near the end of the first half that the deadlock was broken and with Maidstone having only two chances of note in the game, Halifax took advantage with a good team performance.

Cameron King opened the scoring on the 40-minute mark after he received a short pass from Ben Tomlinson just outside the area his shot took a wicked deflection from Will De Haviland completely wrong-footed Lee Worgan as he watched it float past his right-hand side.

Halifax who dominated the first half with all but one of the chances in the half had a goal disallowed just after 20 minutes. A drilled cross from the right-hand side found Jonathan Edwards on the penalty spot from which he diverted into the bottom left corner. However, the assistant on the far side flagged straight away.

Ben Tomlinson received the ball inside the side of the six-yard box and after beating a defender Tomlinson Rifled a shot towards goal which beat Lee Worgan at his near post.

Dayle Southwell made it 3-0 from the penalty spot sending the keeper to his left as southwell placed the ball in the centre of the goal. The penalty was awarded when Johnathan Edwards was brought down in the box by Jordan Wynter as Ben Tomlinson tried to float a free kick on the from the right as he tried to find the Halifax Number 10.

Blair Turgott had Maidstoneโ€™s first chance of the game just before the 30-minute point, when he received the ball just outside the 18-yard box and his shot bounced just in front of the diving Sam Johnson palming the ball away.

The second chance of the game fell to Stuart Lewis as he tried with a speculative effort from 25 yards out. He received the ball in the centre of the park took one touch before blasting his shot over the bar.

Maidstone had a couple of half chances throughout the game which didnโ€™t seem to trouble the Halifax defence and with a good solid team effort Halifax defended well when required.

Tomlinson nearly scored the breakthrough moments before the goal when his corner whistler wide of the post. With a tac tic which seemed to come from the training ground had all the five Halifax players standing in front of goal from a corner. Tomlinson curled the ball in towards the far post and after missing all the players just flew past the far post almost finding the top corner

Jonathan Edwards had another couple of chances in the first half His first chance came just after ten minutes. Micheal Duckworth attacking down the left cut back and floated the cross right footed as Edwards rose his miss timed header back across goal was narrowly wide.

Dayle Southwell Whipped the ball in halfway through the first half and Edwards with a towering header was happily seen wide by Lee Worgan.

Johnathan Edwards almost found his goal of the game and Townโ€™s fourth however his effort hit the side netting. King played the ball into the attacker on the right of the area and cutting inside beat two players his shot was dragged just wide of the post.
