After yesterdayโ€™s 2-1 loss at home to Bolton Wanderers, the official website caught up with Town’s goal scorer, Mekhi McLeod, to ask him his thoughts on the match.

“We’re a new team that’s working really hard. Bolton are a good side and we tested them. We ran our hearts out,ย took the game to them and pushed them to the extreme. I feel like it was a good run out for the boys.”

With it only being pre-season, manager Jamie Fullarton stressed that the team’s performances are more important than the results. Mekhi gave us a different perspective.

“I’d be lying if I said the result didn’t matter. I want to win all the time, so personally and for a lot of the boys it does (matter).”

After taking on four defenders, Mekhi scored a wonderful solo goalย after Town went 2-0 down. He went on to describe his goal to us:

“I’m spontaneous. I’ll be honest with you, it just came naturally. I drove at the fullback, cut inside and hit the ball in the bottom corner.”

Mekhi’s exciting attacking play certainly got the fans excited every time he touched the ball. He’s now scored two goals in his last two games and says his goal scoring form will “definitely” continue throughout the season.

When askedย if his flamboyant goal celebrations will also continue, Mekhi was quite secretive, claiming he has more “up his sleeve” and that he’s looking forward to showing us another one against Port Vale on Tuesday night.

“I’m very excited. Last season I was in League Two and I didn’t really get to stretch my legs out in that league. I didn’t get the chance to play the likes of Port Vale, so I’m very excited and all the boys are too.”
