The Victoria Ground proved a difficult venue for the Shaymen to play the brand of football supporters have grown accustomed to of late, but the team showed resilience and great team ethic to grind out the three points to extend the clubs unbeaten run to seven.
Garner was aware the team were heavy favourites heading into the game, but had previous fixtures against Altrincham and Stalybridge in his mind as a reminder teams fighting for survival can prove to be a tough test.
โIt could have been one of those games where we went and scored three or four but that didnโt prove to be the caseโ said Garner.
โIโm just pleased weโve not thrown away silly points given how hard weโve worked to get in the position that we were in. The first half proved that as it just didnโt go for us at all. We didnโt create a shot at goal and struggled to take control of the gameโ the centre back admitted.
Garner mentioned that anything other than three points would have had a bad effect on the team, but praised the managers half-time talk and substitutes.
Tom Dentonโs introduction was the โgame-changerโ according to Garner. He was involved in the bizarre opening goal from Matty Kosylo just minutes into the second half before adding one to his own tally with a fabulous header that caused confusion between linesman and referee before the goal finally being awarded.
โTomโs such a formidable unit and you need that style of player at times,โ said Garner, โWhen heโs in form heโs unplayable and he was a real handful in the second half.โ
At 2-0 many supporters would have thought the remainder of the game would have been cruise-sailing. That proved not to be the case with Worcester pulling one back via the penalty spot through Tyler Weir, before he was sent off in the most confusing circumstances moments later for an apparent push on Sam Johnstone in the aftermath.
โ4 clean sheets would have been nice for us to have as I thought the penalty was a soft oneโ Garner believed.
โI was next to him when Jackson played the ball in and for me I thought it was a case of him realising that he wasnโt get to it and just overstretches, rather than a case of him being pulled back by Peniket.โ
Despite the team showed another impressive defensive display โ ย Garner described the current set-up as a โgood recipeโ and reiterated the need to keep together at the back.
โWeโre all working hard for each other and the team are doing their job at the other end so we just need to keep this going.โ
The Shaymen have next Saturday off, due to Brackley Townโs commitments in the FA Trophy, but Garner insists itโs come at possibly the wrong time.
โTo be honest I think a lot of us are annoyed to have the weekend off, we want to keep the rhythm going and keep getting points on the board,โ said Garner, โHowever itโs good to leave it on a win and weโll be ready for the next one when we are back.
โBoston United is of course my old club so it will be nice to see some old faces. They know the form we are in so I expect them to turn up and give us a tough game.โ
