FC Halifax Town will face Alfreton Town at the MBi Shay Stadium this Saturday, April 8 (3pm). The Shaymen will be hoping to continue their play-off push in front of the Shay faithful as the Vanarama National League North promotion heads into its final furlong. Here we look at the latest news from around the league.

Darlington 1883 have obtained permission to change their name, reverting to their original Darlington FC. The Quakers’ new name will be official for the start of the 2017/18 season.

Wes Atkinson has extended his loan deal with Saturday’s opponents Alfreton. The 22-year-old is on loan from Notts County and will remain with Alfreton until the end of the season. The former West Bromwich Albion was on loan at Gateshead earlier in the season, before signing for an initial month’s loan with Alfreton in March. He has scored one goal in six appearances so far for the Reds.

Graham Heathcote has stepped down from his coaching role at Altrincham following their relegation from the Vanarama National League North being confirmed at the weekend.

The board have signalled their intention to move on from the management team of former Shayman Matt Doughty and Robbie Lawton, and advertise the managerial position for next season, something which Heathcote has taken as his own signal to step down. Gary Jones has been appointed as player-coach for the remainder of the season.
