Torquay United manager Gary Owers says he knew ”there were no words which could make the bitter pill of relegation any easier for Torquay United’s fans to digest”. United’s 1-1 draw at Hartlepool confirmed their relegation to the sixth-tier next season

Talking of Hartlepool, their young forward, Liam Travers, has been released from his contract at the North East club by mutual consent. Travers, 19, will move to the United States to combine his football with his studies, which will start in September this year.

Jay Saunders says he has ‘mixed-feelings’ about the season as his Maidstone United side secured survival in the National League for another season.

Paul Fairclough has released details of the squad for his England C side to face the Irish Amateur XI. National League representatives are Kane Smith, Luke Pennell, Sam Ling, Josh Staunton, Tom Crawford, Charlee Adams, Cavaghn Miley, Fejiri Okenabirhie, Josh Koroma and Tommy Wright.

Steve McNulty’s impressive performance gave him a place in the National League’s team of the week, thanks in part to a clean sheet at the Shay. No FC Halifax players made the cut, nor any Maidstone United players, the Shaymen’s next opponent.
