An impressive performance from FC Halifax Town saw them 2-1 winners, thanks to goals from Mike Fondop-Talom and Ben Tomlinson.

The Shaymen made a slow start as Sutton hit the crossbar from inside the six-yard box early in the first minute of the game after a miscommunication by the Town defence.

Mike Fondop-Talom came close to opening the scoring in the 10th minute as he tried to latch on to a loose ball inside the Sutton area, but Jamie Butler did enough to get the ball back under control for the away side.

Town captain Matty Brown suffered an injury in the first half and was subsequently replaced by Josh Wilde.

FC Halifax piled on the pressure and again came inches away from opening the scoring as Conor Thompson put a dangerous ball across the face of goal, but none of his teammates could get on the end of it.

Town were finally rewarded as striker Mike Fondop-Talom saw himself through on goal, cleverly taking the ball round the Sutton United keeper and finishing to give the home team the lead in the 18th minute.

The Shaymen went in search of their second goal with Conor Thompson’s shot coming close to extending the lead, b it was blocked from close range again by Butler.

Sutton United players Kenny Davis and Simon Downer both saw yellow for preventing attacks from Town as they continued to pressure the visitors.

An excellent block inside the Town penalty area by Niall Maher prevented Sutton United’s Kenny Davis’s free kick, maintaining the 1-0 lead for The Shaymen.

FC Halifax Town took their deserved lead into half-time after a strong first half performance.

Sutton United came out in the second half looking for the equaliser, with a wide free-kick that nestle found its way into the Town goal.

Sutton began to dominate possession early in the second half, with a series of corners followed by a wayward effort from Aswad Thomas flew over the Town crossbar.

Town came inches away from extending their lead when Ben Tomlinson stuck the woodwork from outside the Sutton box, followed by Conor Thompson’s rebounded effort that went wide.

Sam Graham held The Shaymen’s defence together through a tough onslaught from Sutton with a commanding performance following Matty Brown’s early departure, which saw him dominate the Sutton United attackers in several aerial battles.

Another dangerous ball from Conor Thompson in the 65th minute nearly found its way to Fondop-Talom’s head, but a header from the defence prevented his second of the game.

Mike Fondop-Talom came close to finding the net once again in the 70th minute, cutting inside onto his left foot and drilling his shot hard into the corner, but his shot was accidentally blocked by his teammate.

Although Town defended well, they couldn’t keep Sutton United out, as the visitors equalised in the 82nd minute of the game from a headed goal from Ross Lafayette.

Town fought back and regained the lead as the ball rebounded off the cross bar and was met by Ben Tomlinson’s powerful leap, on the stroke of added time.

Town held on to record a second impressive victory in the space of 4 days.
