Stockport County: We Had Best Of The Chances

FC Halifax Town gained a deserved point at Stockport County after a fairly even encounter, but manager Billy Heath couldnโ€™t help but ponder what might have been after the Shaymen created two golden opportunities in the second half.

County left-back Scott Duxbury cancelled out Tom Dentonโ€™s earlier strike after persistent pressure from the home side at the start of the second period, but Jordan Sinnott โ€“ the hero of Townโ€™s 2-2 draw with Altrincham last Tuesday night โ€“ was then denied by a wonderful Ben Hinchliffe save before the midfielder spurned a glorious chance minutes later when well placed.

Heath reflected to the Official Website:

โ€œIt is a good point away from home but we are a little bit disappointed because we have had the best of the chances. They pushed really hard in the second half and got themselves into some decent areas but we had the best chances, so in some respects I am disappointed we havenโ€™t come away with all three points.

โ€œWe had two great chances at 1-1; the goalkeeper has made a really good save for the first one. Jordan carved it out really well, dropping his shoulder twice and leaving the defender standing.

โ€œHe then curled it towards the bottom corner and from the moment it left his foot I thought it was in. It looked like it was beyond the goalkeeper but he pulled off an unbelievable save. It was a top, top drawer save.

โ€œThe second one, Jordan was unable to hit the target and he is disappointed about that. He came onto it in a nice area and you think to yourself, โ€œHit the target and you score.โ€ I think he actually hit it too well. He got too much on it. If he scuffed it then it might have bobbled in!

โ€œBut when you come to Stockport in a midweek game away from home, then a point is not bad.โ€

Dentonโ€™s first half effort was his sixth of the season, ensuring he has scored in each of Townโ€™s first four games of the season. And Heath believes the strikerโ€™s current form is the best he has ever produced. He said:

โ€œHis consistency at the minute is as good as it has ever been. Obviously he has always been very difficult to play against but the consistency of his performances have been the best weโ€™ve seen.

โ€œHe has come to the Club and he has been fantastic. He is a very good player.โ€

Townโ€™s deserved point, however, may have come at a price, with Josh Wilde (hamstring) and Nathan Hotte (groin) now proving a major doubt for the visit of Tamworth on Saturday, in addition to Liam King and Danny Honeโ€™s back problems, as well as the start of Cliff Mooโ€™s three-match suspension. Heath rued:

โ€œIt keeps the unbeaten run going which is huge. That is the main thing. But the biggest problem we have got now is injuries. We have suddenly picked up a lot of injuries.

โ€œWe missed Danny Hone tonight and we are still trying to get Liam King right for this coming weekend โ€“ they are both only โ€˜hopesโ€™ at the minute as they have both got back problems and they are both very difficult to control.

โ€œThen Josh Wilde came off tonight with a hamstring problem and also Nathan Hotte was struggling with a groin problem. And obviously we lose Cliff Moyo as well.

โ€œWe havenโ€™t got a lot of time to rectify that so we have got to see if when can urgently get some players into the building.โ€ย
