Up for the Cup at the Shay again this weekend as we host Stalybridge Celtic for the second time in a matter of weeks. Following a 1-0-win last time against Celtic through Liam Kingโ€™s penalty, the Shaymen look to hit a consistent run after last weekendโ€™s 4-0 victory over Bradford Park Avenue.Prior to the last fixture against Stalybridge, Player Spotlight focused on midfielder Aidan Chippendale and how he has found his feet at the club. Now we move onto a fellow maestro who sometimes appears alongside him. Enter Manchester-born midfielder Aaron Chalmers.

Chalmers, 25, first played academy football for Bolton Wanderers before signing for Oldham Athletic at the age of nine. It was with the Latics that he made his first senior match day squads, aged just 16 in various cup competitions. He eventually made his professional debut, playing 16 minutes in a 2-0 victory over Leyton Orient in April 2008. He then made a solitary further League One appearance against Northampton Town.

After an alleged series of disciplinary misdemeanours, Chalmers was released from his Oldham contract in December 2008, and he went on to sign for Macclesfield Town later in the 2008/09 season. Chalmers then joined Hibernian and played predominantly as a centre-half for their under-19s before a transfer to Mossley. After a run in the team at Mossley throughout 2010, he was then loaned to Droylsden, making a name for himself in non-league before signing for Southport via a short spell with Stockport Sports.

Spells with Ashton United, Hyde and Northwich Victoria followed as Chalmers has shown his talent at several respected clubs at this level before the age of 25. His hard-working midfield style of play coMBined with an eye for goal have attracted him to Stalybridge with whom he signed last year.

One thingโ€™s for sure, the experience Chalmers has gained makes him a household name in much of non-league โ€“ one of those who seems to have been around for a long time. He is sure to be one to keep tabs on should he feature this coming Saturday afternoon.
