Jamie Yates was born on Christmas Eve, 1988 in Sheffield and began his career at Rotherham United. The youngster was a regular at youth level, with our very own Liam King.

The tricky winger would go on to make his debut in March 2007 in a winning effort away at Brentford, after being around the squad since being given a first-team number in the preceding November.

Yates remained in and around the first team for the next couple of seasons making 35 appearances for Rotherham. During this time he scored three goals, a double against Morecambe after coming off the bench, and a 45-yard stunner against Mansfield that would see the Stags relegated out of the football league.

In 2009 Yates was loaned out to Burton Albion where he would play six times as he helped the Brewers achieve promotion to the football league. He scored just the one goal, against Grays Athletic, which meant that Albion had won 12 successive wins โ€“a record for the division.

The youngster’s time at Rotherham gradually came to an end, but it wouldn’t be long until he found a new club in the then Northern Premier League, Boston United.

It would be a fruitful time for Yates as he achieved promotion to the national league north in his first season at the club, before reaching the playoffs with the former football league club. However, he would reject a contract and leave for Gainsborough Trinity at the end of the 2010/11 season. His time at Boston United ended having made 77 appearances with 8 goals scored.

Gainsborough achieved relative success whilst Yates was a regular for the national league north side as they reached the playoffs. During the season Yates had been handed the captain’s armband and he would lead out the side against the Shaymen in the playoff semi-finals. Gainsborough won the tie 3-2 over the two legs but would miss out on promotion to the national league, with a 1-0 loss at the hands of Nuneaton.

His second season at the club would be a disappointing one; Trinity missed out on the playoffs following a poor start to the season, though he would score against his former club, Boston, in a 2-2 draw. But the FA Trophy did provide some excitement as they reached the semi-finals, losing out to Wrexham 4-3 on aggregate. Though the season did see the major scalps of Barrow, Forest Green and Tamworth. Yates left Gainsborough having made 130 appearances and scoring 9 goals.

Yates then signed for North Ferriby during a successful time for the side. Under the reign of Billy Heath, they achieved second place in the national league north but missed out on promotion โ€“losing 3-0 against Guiseley.

As many of you will be aware North Ferriby would win the FA Trophy the next season against Wrexham, however Yates wouldn’t be in the squad for the game. He remained with North Ferriby as they got promoted last season.

This all leads to where Jamie Yates is at today, Matlock Town. The winger has made quite the impact and established himself well in the ranks of Matlock as he became youth team manager upon signing with the club as well as making 12 first team appearances this term.
