FC Halifax Town manager Billy Heath has outlined that he is looking for a reaction from his squad as the Shaymen look to bounce back from a disappointing defeat to Curzon Ashton on Saturday.

Town will now travel to Matlock Town as they begin their defence of the FA Trophy and Heath believes that his side will be fresher an ready to go at the DCJ Insurance Group Stadium.ย ย

โ€œWe may make one or two changes personnel wise but also I think we will be a little bit fresher than what we were on Saturday. We have had three very tough games and I think physically we probably were not as sharp of as strong as we have beenโ€

โ€œHopefully in this weekโ€™s training we can improve that, get ourselves better that way and just look for a reaction from the players. It is always disappointing when you lose a game and hopefully we can get back to winning waysโ€

Town suffered a blip in their recently impressive form as three red cards saw an eight-man Curzon battle to earn a 4-2 victory in what was their first at the Tameside Stadium this season, something that Heath believes was down to a lack of consistency from his side.

โ€œWe just didnโ€™t play to any sort of level that we played at on the Tuesday before against Dagenham and that was the main disappointmentโ€

โ€œWe had a lot of players out of sorts, it is about consistency and it is about maintaining the standards but we were just so out of sorts and that was the most disappointing thingโ€

โ€œWe probably should have had the three points that we didnโ€™t collect but I thought the performance itself was not great. We have to dust ourselves down and make sure that we are right for the trophy game against Matlockโ€

The Shaymen will now be looking to hit the ground running against Matlock to leave behind any bad memories from their last outing, and Heath says this will be crucial if Town are to get the desired result come full-time on Saturday afternoon.

โ€œItโ€™s our next game so it is the most important and then we are defending the trophy but every game we play is massively important whether you are holders of the trophy or notโ€

โ€œWhat we have to do is make sure we go out on the front foot like we have done for the majority of this season. We will make sure we start right and start quick, if we play to our full potential then we should win the game but we have got to make sure we do thatโ€

Having played against The Gladiators back in pre-season, Heath knows the sort of challenge that Matlock will pose and believes that the occasion will make his opponents more motivated to strive for a victory.

โ€œAt the end of the day it is at Matlock, we had a good game in pre-season because they did well and they have got some very good players so it is going to be a tough gameโ€

โ€œWhoever we play is a big scalp for anybody so there is no doubt that they will be up for it and looking to take a big scalpโ€

โ€œWe have got to be mindful of that like we are in every game. If you play for FC Halifax then you are a big scalp for people to take so everybody is up for it when they play usโ€

If you cannot make it to the DCJ Insurance Group Stadium then there will be live match updates and commentary available on the Shaymen Wall.
