FC Halifax Town’s defence of the FA Trophy nearly came to a disastrous end at the first time of asking on Saturday against Matlock Town but substitute Alex Simmons’ late strike saved the blushes of Billy Heath as the game finished 1-1.

Ahead of the replay, we spoke to Matlock supporter and social media contributor James Griffiths (once again), to get his take on Saturday’s match and what he’ll be expecting at The MBi Shay.

Did you feel you deserved more than a replay based on your perfomance?
I felt on the day in all honesty that we deserved to walk away with the win after spending a good amount of time on top and had the weather conditions not changed then who knows what may have happened but to be fair it was a well taken equaliser!

Are you confident heading into Tuesday’s match?

I’m confident that we’ll give you guys a really good game of football and with that huge FA Cup game coming up then who knows just maybe we can strike and take advantage while thoughts are elsewhere.

You really took the game to Halifax on Saturday and at times looked the National League side, do you think the manager will set the side up like that again at The Shay?

I think that’s a large possibility as this group of lads play with no fear and they thrive on that underdog tag, not many gave us much of a hope on Saturday but that’s the story of our season so far we keep pulling out the unexpected.

What Halifax player stood out for you, in Saturday’s 1-1 draw?

Liam King as he’s ex Matlock, it’s always a pleasure to see him and his family. He’s just a real credit to your club, the game itself and clearly a natural at captain. Tom Denton is another just behemoth of a footballer who is an all-round nice guy and you can never really plan well how to defend against him as there isn’t anybody else with his strength or power in non-league football that I’m aware of and as such in the last game, he showed how much of a menace he can be from a set piece.

The FA Trophy between FC Halifax Town and Matlock Town is a quick turn around and will take place at the MBi Shay on Tuesday 29th November.
