FC Halifax Town were knocked out of the West Riding County Cup with a 4-2 defeat to Northern Counties outfit Selby Town.

It was a fast pace start to the game with Selby going close in the first minute, Woodhead just managed to put a shot wide of Jack Atkinsonโ€™s far post with a lofted shot, which the goalkeeper could only speculate.

Next, it was the Shaymenโ€™s chance to have a shot on goal and it came, with a move which started on the near touchline with Ross Barrows, who went via Khan who swung a cross in which eventually found Glover who had a shot which went just into the side netting.

The first goal came in just the third minute which was for the hosts, Flanagan finished off a great move with a powerful shot over Atkinson

Inside ten minutes, The Shaymen equalised, with the goal coming through Liam Healy. A good time on the ball to compose himself and then placed a shot well taken past the goal keeper to level the score.

Just fifteen minutes before the break, the home side re took the lead, Flanagan found Dale before receiving the ball back and knocking it past Atkinson with ease.

The last chance of the game allowed Jack Atkinson to show Billy Heath why he was rightly selected on the bench for the previous game with a superb save on the line which looked impossible to stop.

The no stone was left unturned from a Selby Town point of view with tackles flying in, Shiraz Khan and Ross Barrows needed treatment towards the end of the half but were able to carry on with not too much of a problem.

Shiraz Khanโ€™s injury ended up being worse than the team originally though and was brought off at half time and was replaced by Adiele for the Shaymen.

The second half was not the best for Townโ€™s point of view, the hosts increased the deficit to make it 3-1, Flanagan again the goalscorer.

The Shaymen responded excellently to going 3-1 behind with a goal themselves, brilliantly from the back at Atkinson, a move forward finished off by the captain Ross Barrows, the most senior player in the side this evening to get the away side back in the game.

Straight from the kick off Selby Town looked threatening and caused a melee in the area caused Clayton to foul one of the home sideโ€™s players. Charlie Clamp stepped up and unleashed a powerful strike from the spot into the top left hand corner, sending Atkinson the wrong way, to retake the two goal lead.

The second half was all Selby town, chances at both ends though, just one team could take them and the home side rightly go into the semi final of the West Riding County Cup.
