Leyton Orient 0 โ€“ 3 FC Halifax Town

FC Halifax Town charged to second in the National League, after an emphatic 0-3 demolition of fellow promotion-hopefuls Leyton Orient at the Matchroom Stadium.

A pair of first-half goals from Adam Morgan and Tom Denton was added to late on by Matty Kosyloโ€™s penalty, as The Shaymen extended their unbeaten streak away from home.

An electric start from Town saw The Shaymen nearly claim the lead inside 30 seconds, with a searching cross from the right side narrowly evading the onrushing Tom Denton at the far post.

Seconds later, Town made their early pressure pay, with Denton heading down into the path of Adam Morgan, who swivelled away from the Orient defence before unleashing a sumptuous strike into the roof of the net.

The momentum soon swung Orientโ€™s way after Townโ€™s opener, with the home side nearly bagging an instant leveller. An exquisite floated delivery from Jobi McAnuff was met by a charging Matt Harrold, who could only guide his towering header wide from close range.

A revitalised Orient continued to pepper Halifaxโ€™s goalmouth, with Sam Johnson sensationally denying Jake Capriceโ€™s close-range drive, only for Romuald Boco to blaze the rebound behind with the net unguarded.

Relentless waves of attacking pressure from Orient saw Macauley Bonneโ€™s 18th minute glancing header flash inches over the crossbar as Town continued to thwart the home sideโ€™s attacking efforts.

The Shaymenโ€™s tenacious defensive stand was soon rewarded in the 28th minute, as Denton rose at the far post and powered an emphatic header into the bottom right corner from a free-kick to double Townโ€™s lead.

A shell-shocked Orient were almost punished further five minutes later, Morgan only being denied a brace by the width of the post as Halifax ramped up their search for a third goal.

Orient keeper Charlie Graingerโ€™s sensational fingertip save prevented Denton from adding the elusive third in the 39th minute, before Orient came close themselves as Jobi McAnuffโ€™s long-range drive cannoned away off the inside of the post.

Halifax raced out of the gates to begin the second-half, with Kosylo shrugging off challenges before seeing his fierce strike well saved by the outstretched Grainger.

However, Orient claimed the momentum heading towards the hour mark, scuppering a pair of gilt-edged chances. Craig Clay fired over, before a mad scramble in the 67th minute saw Johnson claw the ball away off the line.

Fancy footwork from David Mooney in the Halifax area fooled Town defenders, however the Orient subโ€™s searing shot skipped wide into the side-netting.

After absorbing Orientโ€™s relentless attacking onslaught, a lightning counter-attack saw Denton charge purposefully into the box, before being hauled to the ground as the referee pointed to the penalty spot.

Kosylo stepped up and coolly dispatched his spot-kick, bagging a third for The Shaymen to stun the home crowd into silence.

The referee brought an end to proceedings, as Halifax maintained their unbeaten run at home and continued their winning streak.
