Kidderminster Harriers managed to save their National League status for a few more days as FC Halifax Town were unable to find an equaliser in their 1-0 defeat away at the Aggborough Stadium.
Ben Whitfield grabbed the hosts decisive goal just a few minutes after the break and Town keeper, Sam Johnson prevented a second with a saved penalty.
The Shaymen came into this game knowing that a victory could push them five points clear of the relegation zone and send the hosts down to the National League South.
Jim Harvey made just the one change from the defeat against Aldershot as he swapped Wade Fairhurst for Josh MacDonald.
The first ten minutes were end to end as both teams went in search of an opener.
Town enjoyed a flurry of corners and former Kidderminster player, Richard Peniket and James Bolton both came close to heading the side into the lead. But
Kidderminster came back and Elton Ngawala and Ben Whitfield both had shots blocked.
Midway through the first half and Jim Harvey opted for a change of formation as he moved another man into the midfield from defence, to encourage his side to press more.
Jake Hibbs almost found a way through with a superb curling free kick but Dean Snedker was able to match his effort with an equally fantastic save.
Peniket caused problems down the left in the first half and just ten minutes before the break, the 23 year-old shot just wide of the target and he then combined with Kingsley James and Jordan Burrow to set up Nicky Wroe on the edge of the box but his effort was blocked.
But the hosts regrouped at half time and came out the livelier and in the second half it was a different game.
Lewis Kinsella switched the ball from the right to the left to find Whitfield who took the ball down and calmly slotted the ball past Johnson to give Kiddy that vital goal.
Despite making a positive start, Town looked sloppy at the start of the second half and after going behind it almost got worse for Harvey’s side.
Kidderminster substitute, Dan Sweeney was brought down by Hamza Bencherif for a penalty after surging past the defender on the left hand side.
But Sam Johnson silenced the premature cheers as he made a superb save to stop Elton Ngwatala’s spot kick.
As the game entered the final third, Town were struggling to find their composure as they continued to lose the ball in the middle of the pitch.
With the Harriers in search of their first home win in over ten games, the hosts were eager to end this rot and continued to press.
Substitute, Omari Patrick was immediately put through just seconds after coming on and he narrowly missed the target. This came just after Sweeney found space in the middle of the Town half and fired at goal, but Johnson continued to pull off fine saves.
As the game entered the dying embers, Town had five additional minutes to try and find a leveller.
Substitute, Shaq McDonald showed a lot of energy after coming on late and was almost rewarded for his effort when Kidderminster’s goal kick was headed back towards the striker. He turned a couple of defenders but his shot was just wide of the bottom left hand corner.
In the end, the hosts managed to hold on to secure all three points, making it back to back defeats for the Shaymen.
