His last game, his last interview and a smashing win for Neil Young. Young has taken charge of the club for three games winning a solid point against Wrexham, an unfortunate loss to Ebbsfleet and now this massive win against Hartlepool United. After the win Neil Young spoke to Shaymen TV.

Young straight away did mention his three games. The caretaker boss said, “I’m delighted with the players and the performance, but to be fair apart from 20-25 minutes on Saturday, I think we’ve been excellent in all three games I’ve been in charge.”

“It’s a good return, (4 points) but as we’ve just spoken, it could have been nine if we’re being greedy. At this moment in time we’ve got to win as many games as we can, it was about getting points but it’s about performances and having a frame work to go forward. But I’m more than pleased and delighted with the result”.

With Tom Denton missing out with an injury The Shaymen were missing the target man they’re apparently known for. Young spoke about the club’s different style of play.

“They were very direct and we had to compete with and we done really well with that. We didn’t have Tom (Denton) in the squad and we had to find another way. This team has been labelled in the past ‘oh we can’t play without Tom’, I know before they’ve done it and they’ve shown again tonight they can do it. They can play, over play a bit for me, but if that confidence is there that confidence is good going forward”.

Continuing with the talk of confidence Neil Young was adamant that this result will be the turning point for The Shaymen “These lads would run through brick walls, for me just lacking that little bit of confidence. Now they’ve got a result they can build on that and go forward”.

The club is missing a lot of players through injury at the moment. Tomlinson, Tuton and Hotte all came into the starting eleven and Young was very impressed.

“We’ve got both Josh’s out (Macdonald and Wilde), Denton out, Clarke out. We haven’t got the biggest pool of players”.

“He (Ben Tomlinson) was outstanding, I thought they were all very good but I thought Ben would have nicked man of the match. His intelligence, his running, considering he hasn’t played a lot of football was a credit to him”.

New signing Mike Fondop-Talom came into the squad tonight and Young mentioned how, as a scout, he’d been looking at him for a while “Mike is someone I’ve been tracking for a while. He’s different, we talk about having different types of players to give us a different variety from a formation perspective. He’s big, he’s strong, he’s quick, he’ll run in behind and I think he’ll do well for the football club”.

It will be sad to see Young leave the touchline, he spoke about his time in charge at the club, “I’ve enjoyed it, I’ve loved it to be fair. It always helps when you’re working with a good group of players. But yeah, I’ve really enjoyed it, it’s been a pleasure to be able to do it, I’ve been very proud to have been asked to do it and to be able to give the fans something tonight, has been good. But more importantly it’s not about me, it’s about the players continuing that and the club stays up and build going forward in the future”.
