  • In 1881 West Hartlepool Amateur Football Club was formed.
  • Then in 1908 The Hartlepools United Football Athletic Company Limited” were formed, with 2000 ยฃ1 shares offered to form a professional club.
  • Brian Clough began his managerial career at the club in 1965.
  • Jeff Stelling was born in Hartlepool and is also a massive fan of the club and is also now Club President.
  • Hartlepool could enter liquidation soon after being cash-strapped. Many clubs around the North-east and the National League have been trying to collect money to save the club.
  • They are nicknamed the Monkey Hangers. This is based upon a legend from the Napoleonic war.
  • Last season Hartlepool changed manager twice. Firstly, Craig HIgnett left by mutual consent and then Dave Jones was sacked.
  • The club were only relegated on the last day of the season, finishing two points off 22nd place Newport County.
  • Former England international Peter Beardsley signed for the club in 1998.
  • On 1 January 2007, Hartlepool United equalled the all-timeย Football Leaguerecord of consecutive wins without conceding a goal. The 1โ€“0 win atย Mansfield Townย was the eighth straight win without conceding. The record was also held byย Barnsleyย andย Wigan Athletic. However, the record was then broken byย Stockport Countyย on 3 March 2007 when they recorded their ninth successive win without conceding.
  • They won the FA Amateur Cup in 1904-05.
