FC Halifax Town return to FA Cup action this Saturday as they face fellow National League North side Harrogate Town in the fourth qualifying round.

Billy Heath’s men have already beat Ashton Athletic and Stalybridge Celtic to reach this stage and will have the first round proper in their sights.

We spoke to David Lynch about his thoughts on the match and reaching the first round proper of the Emirates FA Cup…

“Confidence is high; it was a disciplined performance last Saturday. Training’s been to a really high standard, everyone’s looking forward to the game on Saturday. On the back of the last three games which have been all good performances and good results as well, winning football games builds confidence.”

The Shaymen will be looking to make up for their 1-0 narrow defeat to their Yorkshire rivals earlier in the season, and there would be no better way than to put Harrogate to the sword at the final qualifying stage…

“You want to win every game of football that you go into, playing for a club like Halifax there’s pressure on yourself every time you step onto the pitch anyway, the manager puts high standards and he has his expectations. We know how we need to perform, keep going about things we’ve been doing in training the right way and if we keep doing that result will look after themselves. We’re going there in the right frame of mind.”

It would be a tremendous achievement for The Shaymen to reach the first round proper once again. A potential cup run would be excellent for the team and the fans, also for David it will be a milestone in his career…

“To me personally it would be absolutely brilliant, it will be the furthest I have ever got in the competition. We want to try and play the best teams as we possibly can, to get to the first round when League teams starts coming in you never then, you could go on a good cup run. For the club it would be great as well, the supporters to potentially get a league club, but winning football games is what it’s all about, building confidence and for us it’s another game of football. We’re going there to try and win to get to the next round.”

Getting through to the first round could give The Shaymen a tasty match up with a Football League team, Lynch is not too concerned and is just solely focused on overcoming Harrogate on Saturday…

“It’s just more about getting through; we’re focusing on Saturday. That’s all we are thinking off the next game of football, once that’s done with it’s the next game of football. All we’re concerned about is winning football games that’s the main thing. That’s the focus of the group at the minute.”

FC Halifax Town play Harrogate Town in the FA Cup Fourth Qualifying Round on Saturday at 3pm.
