The well-travelled forward Nathan Jarman could prove key for Gainsborough Trinity in their hopes of staying in the National League North.
Trinity went down 1-0 at Tamworth on Saturday, with Dan Newton scoring for the Lambs. It’s now only one win in eight for the Lincolnshire outfit who sit inside the relegation place on goal difference. The Shaymen who lost ground on the play-off race after their 1-0 home defeat to Gloucester City on Saturday. Joe Hanks was the match winner after converting a penalty in the 75th minute.
The Lincolnshire side are in real danger of slipping down into the seventh tier of English football, and they need to start putting points on the board sooner rather than later, with only eight games of the campaign left.
The 30-year-old forward’s experience, who can operate on right-wing as well as up front, will be needed now more than ever for Dave Frecklington’s outfit. Jarman has several sides on his CV with vast experience, having been part of the play-off winning side in 05/06 for Barnsley, Football League Trophy runner-up for Grimsby Town in 07/08 and FA Trophy winner for Billy Heath’s former side North Ferriby United in the 14/15 season.
Jarman’s last goal for Frecklington’s side came against Gloucester, when the forward converted a penalty which in end the secured a point at The Northolme. The current Trinity captain, having taken over from Dominic Roma, has chipped in with his fair share of goals so far this season, having scored eight in all competitions – second only to Ashley Worsfold, who has 11 goals in this campaign.
The Scunthorpe-born forward’s best season came in the 11/12 season for, then National League Premier side Alfreton Town. Jarman was only at the club for a year but his goals were vital in Alfreton’s late surge to safety. The 30-year-old scored 12 goals in his 39 appearances for the club, before joining Chester at the end of the season, dropping down a division in the process. Trinity boss Frecklington will be hoping that he can rekindle that sort of form and drive the Lincolnshire side to safety.
FC Halifax Town welcome Gainsborough Trinity to the MBi Shay on Tuesday 21st March, with kick off scheduled for 7:45pm.
