This Tuesday night sees Gainsborough Trinity make the 66-mile trip north to the MBi Shay with a lot at stake as both sides look to bounce back from disappointing results at the weekend. Here we get Liam King’s thoughts ahead of the game…Β

Saturday saw the Shaymen fall victim to Gloucester, a result which, for King, puts an even bigger emphasis on the upcoming fixture: β€œit’s a poor result and we’ve got to get some points on Tuesday now. It makes it more important doesn’t it and hopefully, we turn up and have a good game.”

Defeat on Saturday brought an end to a remarkable stretch on home soil, with the loss being the first the club had tasted since a 3-1 loss against Brackley in late October and a clearly disappointed King was eager to begin again against a struggling Trinity side who have only picked up one point in their last seven outings.

β€œWe’ve got to move on, it’s pointless dwelling on it and it’s good that Tuesday is coming so soon for us because it is a good chance to put it right. We’ve just got to be better and that can start with a better performance on Tuesday.”

Of course, the reverse fixture between the two sides was a disappointing one from a Town perspective having twice surrendered the lead to fall victim to a 3-2 loss and the Town captain believes that Tuesday offers a good chance of revenge saying: β€œOf course it does, we’ve got a big opportunity here and if we’re going to make the playoffs we’ve got to be winning games and we’ve got to more consistent. Gloucester has shown it and it has been the story of our season and if we can do that then we will be fine.”

Still, despite the disappointment of September’s result, there was a moment of solace in the game as King rounded the keeper to bag his second goal for the Shaymen, something which King believes he can do again if given the opportunity.

β€œObviously, I was out of the team and I’ve been out the team the last two games, but I had a good few chances against Alfreton – as I say, let’s hope the team improves on Tuesday and we can get a result.”
