FC Halifax Town continued their tremendous run of victories with a virtuoso first-half display to seal a 3-1 triumph over FC United at The Shay. On-fire Tom Dentonโ€™s second successive double started off proceedings before Jordan Sinnottโ€™s convincing midfield display saw him notch a third. George Thomson fired a consolation in the second half but the Shaymen had already got the three points wrapped up on a chilly Tuesday night.

The Shaymen went into tonightโ€™s game on the back of a six-game winning run, looking to continue their blistering form. As for FC United, their recent results have been a mixed bag, most recently picking up their second away league win of the season with a 2-0 victory at Kidderminster.

The Shaymen began well on the front foot as they often do so well, dominating possession and looking to play the ball to the talismanic Denton up front.

He and Alex Simmons hit two apiece in the recent weekend win at Boston, and they both had half-chances seen off by the visitors.

But it only took ten minutes for the opener to arrive, with Denton using his aerial prowess again to direct a header home from Sinnottโ€™s ball in.

FC United found chances hard to come by in the first half but got their biggest sniff of an equaliser when Thomson worked a good exchange of passes to fire inches past the post from 20 yards.

That was, however, the pinnacle of the away fansโ€™ excitement as Denton represented a man and a team in top form. Josh Macdonaldโ€™s great work down the right flank laid in the striker at the near post to divert home another just 19 minutes in.

The Shaymen looked comfortable and dangerous, camped mercilessly in the FC United half and nearly added a third through Liam King shortly after the second.

The visitors looked to regroup and were constantly playing second fiddle in a tough first 45 minutes, and Halifaxโ€™s ruthless half was rounded off with a third shortly before the break.

Simmons, lively throughout, played through Josh Wilde whose run on his marker was too much to handle. Wildeโ€™s dangerous ball from the by-line was slotted home expertly by the hugely impressive Sinnott, who got the crowd rocking as the teams went in at the interval. The Shaymen were simply on fire.

The second half began a very calm affair. With Billy Heath satisfied with what his team had, it looked to be an early damage limitation exercise for FC United as they played a subdued first five minutes rather than letting the Shaymen in for more.

The visitors did however grow into the game and began to see a lot of the ball in the Halifax half, albeit not creating a great deal. The Shaymen introduced Jake Hibbs to make matters livelier.

But the goal back did arrive with 17 minutes remaining to give the visitors a flicker of hope. Thomson found space twenty yards from goal and having seen his first attempt blocked, he guided his second bite neatly into the bottom corner.

The visiting fans were in full voice, matching some spirited noise from the home crowd as the hosts looked to take the sting out of the game. Denton was denied a hat-trick by goalkeeper Dave Carnell, before substitute Richard Peniket fired just wide on the break.

FC United ran out of steam in the end as the Shaymen did what was required to see the game out.

Another three points, and the Shaymen climb to third.
