FC United of Manchester U19s suffered their first league defeat of the season at the hands of FC Halifax Town as the Shaymen pulled off a resounding 4-1 win.

League leaders FC United had won all five of their league games before the game against the Shaymen but have now had their perfect start brought to a halt thanks to a great performance from the squad who bowed out of the FA Youth Cup last week.

Ousman Cham gave the visitors the lead in the 15thΒ minute, latching onto Reece Kendall’s pass before delightfully chipping Sulaiman Sajjad in the FC United net.

The hosts didn’t take long to respond as five minutes later, Robson Brown’s free kick from the edge of the box found its way into the bottom corner past Kyle Trenerry.

Three minutes from the break, Jack Knight’s corner ball took a deflection off FC United’s Sajjad and put Halifax back into the driver’s seat.

The third and fourth goals for Halifax came from two players hoping to make a push for first team football, and were both similar in build-up play.

Halifax defended well before hitting FC United on the counter as they tried to get back, resulting in a goal for Ross Barrows in the 61stΒ minute before teammate Shiraz Khan gave the Shaymen a comfortable lead twenty minutes later in near identical circumstances.

The result still sees FC United at the top of the table, but FC Halifax Town move up to 5th. Despite their loss to Sheffield United that knocked them out of the FA Youth Cup after a great run, it’s good to see that it hasn’t damaged the spirits of the team as they’re now back to winning ways.
