FC Halifax Town U19’s Jack Atkinson spoke to ShaymenTV after their 2-1 away win to Farsley Celtic in the league. The goalkeeper explained how much the win meant to both him and the team.

“Overall, it is a massive three points, because after the start of the season losing to Guiseley in the first game.” Atkinson said.

The goalkeeper who is a second year in the set up spoke about not being as clinical of the team in the game and believes that they will be more clinical in the weeks ahead.

“Hopefully we will be more clinical in the coming weeks but we still got the three points.” he added.

Atkinson spoke about the difference between the previous game against Harrogate Town where Town won 10-0, to the game against Farsley Celtic which was a much more close and competitive affair.

“Last week was good, but it didn’t really challenge us. We had to come into this game with an open mind.” Atkinson said

“We knew that they were going to be physical but maybe not the best on the ball so treated it as a normal game.” he added.

For this season Atkinson has been involved with the first team training and made his debut on the team sheet in the West Riding County Cup squad on Tuesday night against Thackley AFC. he spoke about how it has given him confidence to play.

“Confidence wise it is massive. When I first got the opportunity, I was buzzing. Since then I have taking it step by step.” he said.

Atkinson is a second year in the youth set up and this is a big chance for him to impress the bosses in the first team squad, as he comes to the end of his tenure as a youth player at the club at the end of the campaign.

“Obviously it is a big decision and I need to keep focused as at the end of the season hopefully I have done enough to impress.” Atkinson continued.

Town number one Sam Johnson, formerly of Port Vale and Gateshead, is a big part of Atkinson’s development and the U19’s man believes that Johnson has been the saviour for the club this season.

“Sam (Johnson) is great, he is a great keeper and a great person. Halifax are lucky to have him. The number of saves that he has made this season has won the team multiple points.” Atkinson said.
