Eastleigh: Good Chance of Progressing

FC Halifax Town midfielder David Lynch believes that The Shaymen will be able to put in a strong performance on Tuesday as Eastleigh FC visit the MBi Shay Stadium for the Emirates FA Cup second round replay.

Just 90 minutes are separating Town from an historic third round tie away at Championship outfit Brentford FC, and Lynch says that the morale in the dressing room has never been more positive.

β€œEveryone is buzzing, we all get on really well. It is the best dressing room I’ve been in in terms of welcoming everybody is. Everybody gets on and everyone is together, it was a good result for us last week to get back on track”

β€œThe main thing that the gaffer will be looking for is a good performance and if we do that I am sure we will have a good chance of going through”

This comes after The Shaymen showed a great performance at Ten Acres where they were minutes away from a secured place in the next round, only for The Spitfires to equalise in a scrappy fashion right at the death.

It came as a heart breaking setback for the travelling Shaymen, although Lynch believes that a draw would have been an ideal result as the game kicked off. Β

β€œI think if you had asked before the game then I am sure we would have taken it. Given the position we were in being 3-1 up I thought we were going to take the result, certainly with the attacking threat on the pitch”

One man that impressed on the day was Richard Peniket. It was his relentless energy and goal that helped Town to a 3-1 lead with under 20 minutes to go. After a stellar performance, Lynch has nothing but praise for his teammate.

β€œRichard Peniket came on and made a massive impact, to be fair he changed the game really with the way he got at the right back. I was thinking to myself that we could go on and win this but that is football”

β€œTeams are never going to lay down so you always have to keep working. If you had spoken to the gaffer before the game about bringing it back to the Shay then I am sure he would have been happy with that”

Despite the big away tie with Brentford being the prize for the winners of the replay, Lynch says that he will only be focussing on the task at hand, with The Shaymen looking like strong contenders to get the result.

β€œWith me personally I will just be focussing on Tuesday if I am selected, we have good competition all over the pitch”

β€œYou just have to take it one game at a time. In football you never look back because you always want to look forward. We will not concentrate on who we have got in the next round because the gaffer has drilled that into us since last Sunday in training”

β€œIf we go about it in the way that we can do with the strength we have in the squad then there is a very good chance of us going through”

If you cannot make it to The Shay on Tuesday then there will be live match updates of the game available on the Shaymen Wall along with live commentary available on Shaymen Player HD.
