Dag & Red: Dust Ourselves Down

Manager Billy Heath says his FC Halifax Town team must ‘dust themselves down’ ahead of their Emirates FA Cup tie at Dagenham and Redbridge this Saturday (3pm). The Shaymen’s seven-game winning streak came to an end at home to Brackley Town last weekend. The visitors’ comeback comprised three second half goals that Heath is adamant were avoidable.

“We’d not made any mistakes really in the past six or seven games,” he said. “And then we made three errors that led to three goals.

“The goals were from making individual mistakes, which is something we hadn’t been doing of late, but they were all avoidable and we were punished.

“We’ve been on a great run; it’s disappointing we didn’t get the three points last weekend because obviously, we still need to be cliMBing the table.”

Despite the disappointment of defeat to Brackley, Heath believes his side can give National League side Dagenham and Redbridge a test this weekend at the Chigwell Construction Stadium, saying: “We’ve got to pick ourselves up, and dust ourselves down now. We go to the FA Cup game and have to try to get back to winning ways as soon as we can.”

“I’d have probably liked to have played a league game to get ourselves back going and try to get three points,” Heath admits, “but it’s the next game on the calendar.”

“It’s an interesting game where we can go away and enjoy it. We know we’ll enjoy it if we win the game.”

The Town boss also anticipates that a change-up in the nature of the match for his players could yield a positive outcome, saying: “I think a lot of the time, in a lot of the games we play at our level; we’re favourites for virtually every game.

“Obviously, the shoe will be on the other foot this time, and we’ll be underdogs. That will probably ease the pressure a bit and hopefully we can go and get a result.
