With the biggest game of the season fast approaching for FC Halifax Town, Chorley fans Declan Maher and Jue Vass offer an away fan perspective on how they feel their side will fare against the Shaymen.

Following a 1-0 defeat at home to Kidderminster in the first leg of the play-off semi-final, Chorley impressively beat the Harriers 2-0 at Aggborough. It was a 92nd minute winner from Adam Roscoe that made the score 2-0 to the Magpies (2-1 on aggregate) and set up a promotion final against Halifax at the Shay Stadium.

When asked about his expectations for the final, Declan said: โ€œGoing into the season, challenging for the playoffs was always going to be our aim, but after such a good start to the season we limped over the line and only got into them due to Darlington’s exclusion.

โ€œThat said, we were obviously fourth favourites to go up, so getting into the final is an achievement in itself. I think we’ll bring a lot of support and it’ll be a good day regardless of the result, as we really have nothing to lose.โ€

In terms of how confident Declan feels for Chorleyโ€™s chances he stated: โ€œIn terms of confidence, having lost twice to Halifax in the regular season, most recently in the last game of the season, I think I would have rather played Salford. Our form had stuttered and we’ve struggled for goals from our forwards.

โ€œHaving beaten Kidderminster confidence is high and Jack Sampson is back from suspension, who has been magnificent since signing from Macclesfield on loan. So, with him in the side we’ve definitely got a chance. We were underdogs against Kidderminster, so there’s no reason we can’t defy the odds again.โ€

Jue Vass, the tannoy announcer at the Victory Park Stadium, expressed his thoughts about the day and said: โ€œI expect an electric atmosphere from the traveling fans. Thereโ€™s at least 10 coaches going I believe so itโ€™s going to be some away support. Plus those on the train and in cars!โ€

Both Declan and Jue gave their predictions for the game. Declan said: โ€œI think we’ll look to keep it tight and play on the counter. 2-1 to Chorley, but it could go beyond 90 minutes.โ€

Jue also predicts a win for Chorley and stated: โ€œMy heart says 2-0 to Chorley, but my head says weโ€™ll take a 0-0 right to penalties and the Magpies will come out on top!โ€
