FC Halifax Town concluded the league campaign with a hard-fought 2-0 victory away at Chorley, who also reached the play-offs despite the defeat.

The second half strategy from both teams โ€˜went out the windowโ€™ according to Heath- with Chorley throwing everything at Halifax in the hunt for an equalizer.

However, they were denied by a resolute defence, Heathโ€™s side put on a masterclass performance in how to hold out a lead.

โ€œIt wasnโ€™t pretty at times but we knew it was going to be like that given the surface. However, we defended well, our three centre-halves were class and weโ€™ve come away with a deserved resultโ€ said Heath.

The defenders in question were Danny Hone, Matty Brown and Scott McManus โ€“ with the latter two needing desperate game time following lengthy injuries.

โ€œScott came in and was impressive for 75 minutes which was really good going. Matty is a top player as well and Iโ€™m really pleased he got a full 90 minutes โ€“ he looks strong and powerful againโ€ said Heath.

The defensive options are looking strong for Halifax heading into Wednesdayโ€™s first play-off fixture. Kevin Roberts only returned to training on Thursday whilst Scott Garner should also return after collecting four accolades in the Player of the Year awards evening.

โ€œThe team we picked today wasnโ€™t a gambleโ€ believes Heath after making seven changes from the previous fixture, โ€œwe picked a team to win the game and that was our best team. We need as many players fresh for the play-offs so it was vital players that have been on the fringes got some game-timeโ€

The team lined up in an alternate formation โ€“ with Moyo and McManus occupying the wing-back roles. โ€œItโ€™s good to have another option in our strategy. At this stage of the season you need as many options as possible and against Chorley we performed well so we have that plan available if others arenโ€™t working.โ€

The boss also praised our attacking front after Tom Denton bagged his 19thย goal of the season in a typical poacherโ€™s goal.

Heath expects him to reach his target of twenty for the season and has done exactly what he expected him to do.
