Finally, it looks like FC Halifax Town will get their long-awaited match against Alfreton Town after the tie has had to be rescheduled twice already this season. It appears to be the perfect game for The Shaymen to keep their impressive run of form going, having the opportunity to stretch their unbeaten run to nine game against a side who are currently in 17th position.

Billy Heath’s men have won seven of their last nine games and are firm favourites to come away as victors from the Impact Arena. Alfreton should pose an interesting threat as they have grabbed attention but having strangely high scoring games for most of the season. The Reds have scored an incredible 53 league goals so far, this campaign which is only one behind Halifax Town despite being 12 places below them. The issue for Alfreton comes from the back, they have conceded 72 league goals this campaign which is the joint lowest number alongside Altrincham who sit rock bottom.

With a record like that is easy to see why Alfreton will be struggling. In order to get a feel on how the fans are viewing their strange season so far, we spoke with Liam Henton, a Reds fan and despite shipping 72 goals so far, he said a defender is the stand out player so far.

“Brad McGowan without a doubt for me. He is an excellent centre back and I am not surprised to hear of rumoured interest from Burnley. Despite our well documented defensive issues, he has consistently put in strong performances and has won many MOTM awards.”

It may be a game in which Heath’s selection will disappoint a few players who could see this game as a golden opportunity to get their name on the scoresheet. In that case the game comes at a welcome time with Halifax not managing to get a single goal when they played Boston United at home in the last game.

Halifax have struggled to put away some of the teams they have faced near the bottom of the table including a narrow 1-0 win over Altrincham and a devastating 1-0 loss to Stalybridge Celtic. This may give the Alfreton side an underdog level of optimism.

The Halifax manager has certainly made an impact on this league, getting promoted with North Ferriby United last season and guiding The Shaymen to fight for a play-off spot again this year has not gone unnoticed and Henton believes the manager will be a tough opponent for his side.

“A tough game that’s for sure. Billy Heath is a very experienced and shrewd manager who always sets his teams up to be hard to beat. I had you down as a certain team set for the play-offs before the beginning of the season and still believe you may just be seen in the top 5.”

You watch FC Halifax Town take on Alfreton Town away at the Impact Arena, kick off scheduled for 7:45pm, Tuesday the 7th of March.
