Following FC Halifax Town’s narrow 1-0 defeat at home to Ebbsfleet United, Pete Wild spoke to Shaymen TV to give his thoughts on the game, the goal, Cameron King and Jamie Allen’s absence, and looking ahead to Boreham Wood.

“Frustrated and disappointed,” Wild said. “We’ve had 80 percent of the football and we have had plenty of shots, but they’ve put a lot of bodies on the line. We haven’t been quick enough or sharp enough in the final third. We haven’t taken the chances that were presented to us. Ultimately if you don’t do that you won’t win football matches. We made one mistake in the whole game and it has cost us. So, I come away frustrated and disappointed in same measures.”

Gozie Ugwu put the visitors ahead on the 16th minute following a slip from Jerome Binnom-Williams. Wild was disappointed with the manner in which the team conceded but felt we should have done better at the other end as well.

“It was a mistake. He has got to shield it out of play, he knows that,” Wild told Shaymen TV. “He stuck his hand up at half time and apologised. Mistakes happen at every level of football, but we should have had enough in the tank to go on and win the game. We weren’t quick enough or sharp enough in the final third to break them down it is frustrating and disappointing.”

Cameron King and Jamie Allen dropped out of the squad through illness. Wild was adamant that they were not showing symptoms of Covid-19 but they were taken out of the squad as a precaution.

“Both Cam and Jamie were feeling under the weather,” Wild revealed. “They certainly didn’t have any symptoms or anything but in the current climate we felt it was best to keep them away from the football club. It was just to prevent any minor issues spreading.”

Town make the long trip to Boreham Wood on Tuesday night. Despite Boreham Wood’s game on Saturday being called off, Wild is feeling confident of facing the Southern side this Tuesday.

“Looking forward to it and it’s a massive game now,” Wild told Shaymen TV. “One thing you have got is going out on the road teams will come and play at us. Hopefully you will see a better version of Halifax on Tuesday. It is a big game with them in the playoffs as well. We will prepare right for it and go again. Hopefully we can get some goals to add to the amount of possession we are having.”
