FC Halifax Town lost for the first time in the league since Boxing Day courtesy of Torquay United’s Ade Azeez’s second half header this afternoon.
Town hade been on a run of seven games unbeaten in the league but were undone by the Gulls debutant
Pete Wild had made 5 changes to the starting XI from the team that started against Halesowen in the FA Trophy two weeks ago and both sides were faced by blustery conditions down on the south coast
Armani Little had an early chance for the hosts before he went off injured midway in the first half to be replaced by Jake Andrews
Town had efforts from long range from Cameron King and two Devante Rodney efforts that weren’t troubling the Torquay keeper
However the shot-stopper had to be at his best after Rodney’s effort was deflected wide for a corner, he saved Niall Maher’s effort brilliantly
Torquay got a freekick with 22 minutes remaining, Azeez heading home after Sam Johnson had saved the initial effort
Josh Staunton had the goal in his sights with 15 minutes remianing but his effort from the penalty spot was well over the bar, substitue Jack Redshaw had an effort cannon off the bar just before the end of the game
There was still time for another chance but Staunton couldn’t keep his shot down and was well over the bar
