Niall Maher was humble at the fact the Shaymen were 3rd in the league after they beat Bromley 2-1 at The Shay on Saturday.

He opened the scoring in the 32nd minute after Bromley’s captain Jack Holland was sent off for a last-ditch challenge on Jamie Allen. Devante Rodney’s free kick then deflected off the wall and rolled to Maher who tapped it home. He said; “It was a deflection off the wall and I’ve just followed the ball in and got the last nick on it.”

After the Lilywhites captain was sent off Maher felt the game eased a lot more in Halifax’s favour; “I thought we were quite comfortable if I’m being honest. Even when they went down to ten men they started to go long and that released some of the pressure. I thought the lads in and out of possession were outstanding today. The last seven eight games we have been superb.”

Bromley began to send long balls forward in the last ten minutes of the game and were a tough presence late on; “They were physical, but it was nothing we couldn’t handle.” He later added “I personally think playing in a back three is the best position for me. The gaffer has seen that I am worthy to play that position and that’s great. I feel comfortable in that position and hopefully I can continue there.”

Maher was chuffed that they gained revenge for their 5-0 loss in the away fixture “You know the lads were gutted with the performance at their place. We weren’t just good enough, but we put that right today and we move onto the next game.”

Niall was delighted to hear FC Halifax Town had moved up the table; “If you said we would be 3rd at the start of the season I would have bitten your hand off. Hopefully we can continue and go higher.”

He then looked forward to next Saturday’s F.A Trophy tie against Halesowen; “Tough game. They are three leagues below us, and they won’t make it easy. We need a performance similar today to come out on top.”
