FC Halifax Town’s Charlie Cooper admitted that he was due a goal after he opened the scoring in Halifax’s 5-2 victory over Maidenhead.

The game was short of chances but on the 31st minute Cooper gave Halifax the lead with a superb half volley from just outside of the area.

“I think I was due one to be fair. Obviously I hadn’t scored yet so, seeing it pop up and I thought why not and I just hit it and it went in so happy days,” said the centre midfielder.

Despite the half lacking any real quality, the sides went into half time honours even at 1-1 after Maidenhead equalised from a free kick when Jeff King was adjudged to have fouled his man.

“I thought that the first half was quite scrappy, we went a goal up and then they equalised through a free kick that probably wasn’t a free kick,” stated Cooper

Following the break Halifax really looked to get on top as they thumped in four goals in the half. Cooper praised the sides second half performance.

“Our character showed and we got back into the game, obviously we came out and in the second half I thought the lads were on fire,” said the former Forest Green man.

The Shaymen now take on Chorley on Saturday at Victory Park, having drawn 0-0 with them earlier in the season Cooper looked ahead to the game.

“I think it’ll be another tough game, no game is easy in this league and I think any team can beat anyone, so we’ve got to prepare right again and go there with the same attitude and hopefully we pick up the three points,” he said.
