FC Halifax Town manager Pete Wild was pleased with the defensive solidity his side showed during the Shaymenโ€™s 0-0 draw at home to Stockport County today.

Against a side which put five past Townโ€™s defence in the Vanarama National League just six days ago, the Shaymen stayed strong to record their second consecutive clean sheet โ€“ and were inches from snatching a win when Josh Staunton struck a post in the final minutes.

Following the stalemate, Wild spoke to Shaymen TV to give his thoughts on the game, the potential winner, the formation, and looking ahead to Barnet.

โ€œI thought we looked nervy at the start,โ€ Wild said. โ€œIn the first half an hour we had to withstand a lot of pressure. I think the pleasing thing is that we withstood it. We conceded a lot of corners, a lot of set pieces, put in our box and we managed to withstand that. It was really pleasing to see us defend them because that has been our Achilles heel.โ€

The Shaymen could have had the winner in the dying minutes as Staunton headed on to the post. Wild was happy to see chances being created with the potential to get the win.

โ€œWe looked threatening on the break,โ€ Wild told Shaymen TV. โ€œThat is why we wanted to change the formation. We wanted players higher up the pitch. We are really pleased with how it has gone. It is another point on the board โ€“ we have got 42 points now, a lot more than we had last year. We are still in and amongst it.โ€

Town switched up the formation before Chesterfield and have now kept two clean sheets with the new formation. Wild is delighted with the impact it has had.

โ€œ5-3-2 or 3-5-2, it seems to have worked over the last couple of games,โ€ Wild said. โ€œWeโ€™ll see how we go with the play. Weโ€™ve taken four points and kept two clean sheets with this formation so there are some obvious positives.โ€

The Shaymen travel down to Barnet on Saturday and will be hoping for repeat of the 4-2 win earlier in the season. Wild is confident Town can triumph over the side from the capital.

โ€œIt is another pony-trek,โ€ said Wild. โ€œWe will go down there Friday and get ready for Barnet. There are two big games coming up where we need to pick up points, as well as the cup game. We will look to back this up again.โ€
