Goalscorer Michael Duckworth described FC Halifax Town’s victory as “massive” following their 1-0 away win at Sutton on Tuesday night.

“It was massive. We needed a reaction after Saturday’s performance, that was nowhere near good enough after how we’ve been all year really. We’ve had a bit of a dip in form but we’ve come on the road and got three points, so it’s massive for the boys today.”

Duckworth, who is now into his third season as a Shayman, scored his first goal for the club to secure the points for Town and was happy to finally have gotten off the mark.

“It’s been a long time coming! I feel like I do need to score more but it was nice- just a bit of composure in the box and just slotted it away, and I’m really pleased with it to be fair.”

Duckworth marked the occasion of his first Shaymen goal with an extravagant celebration including a cartwheel and a backflip and said;

“It’s not been brought out for a few years, it might need a bit of work!”

In terms of overall reflections on the match, Duckworth said;

“The lads did well tonight, we defended solid at the back, obviously Jabba (Jacob Hanson) came in and did well. The subs off the bench came in and made an impact, Jack Earing, I thought he did very well, so yeah, I thought it was a good all round performance from the boys.”

Finally, Duckworth said the squad would try and take the evening’s positive momentum forward to Saturday’s game at home to Torquay;

“Yeah, we need to pick up our form at home. The gaffer’s mentioned that to us, it’s not been good enough at the minute, so it’s a massive opportunity on Saturday to pick up three points.”
