Pete Wild is delighted that the team have shown they can win in different ways. A scrappy game saw FC Halifax Town come out 1-0 winners against southern side Sutton Side.

A second half goal from Michael Duckworth sealed all three points for the Shaymen.

“We said at half time, there will be one chance, we’ll get that chance,” Wild said. “Luckily for us tonight, we took that chance. I thought it was quite an even first half. They put us under a lot of pressure. They really gave us a game tonight. I was really pleased with how we withstood that pressure tonight.”

There were a lot of fouls on both sides. Town did well to retain their composure as the fouls continued throughout the game.

“I know it was scrappy, but I don’t care how we played tonight,” Wild told Shaymen TV. “Tonight, was more about the reaction. On that surface, it’s really tough to play on. Really happy to come away with the result. It is proof we are not just a pretty side.”

Wild made the decision to bring Liam McAlinden off at half time for Jack Earing. Town proceeded to dominate the second half, getting the crucial winner.

“Liam took a little knock in training, we weren’t sure about playing him,” Wild said. “We wanted all our goal scorers on the pitch, but it didn’t quite work. Full credit to Jack Earing. He’s a lad who has worked really hard every day. He deserved his chance today. So, I’m really pleased for Jack.”

Wild is delighted with the win but is certain Torquay will provide a tougher challenge at the Shay on Saturday.

“I think they are one of the tougher sides in the league,” Wild told Shaymen TV. “They’ve got a really experienced manager, Gary’s [Johnson] had a great career. He’s got an art of producing teams that play winning football. I think we’re going to have to be as resilient as we were today. We’re going to have to be more of a threat higher up the pitch as well.”
