Good afternoon, and welcome to you all. Time for me to give my “FA Cup tee shirt” it’s first airing of the season, methinks! Just to remind you, this is my lucky charm, although it doesn’t take a genius to realise, we haven’t won the competition yet, although I religiously wear it every year.

Thanks to those of you who donated £10 last week to get your name in our “Play the Squares” page in the programme. We continue to sell these spaces at a decent rate, but there are still a few left, so don’t be shy in asking to be included. As ever, our intrepid bucket collectors will quite happily take details and relieve you of your hard-earned cash.

A final reminder that the next Supporters Club function is our annual Football Quiz night, which will again be held at John Chew’s pub the Flying Dutchman on Boothtown Road on Thursday October 24th  starting at 8pm. Teams of up to four people are invited to compete, and children are welcome (it is half term week, of course). The question master, who also sets the quiz, is Dave Crossley, and he can be relied on to do a sterling job as per usual. Thanks, as always to John for allowing us to use his premises.

Here’s a further extract from the “Halifax Town AFC Official History 1892 to 1922/3” handbook. It’s the final part of the section about Division Three, headed “First Season Reviewed”;

During the season no less than 32 players found places in the first team at one time or another, the following being the complete list (although space constraints mean I’ll only actually include those with over 30 appearances):- Hall 35, Whalley 35, Wellock 32, Pinkney 31. The full list comprises four goalkeepers, seven full-backs, five half-backs and sixteen forwards, although it must be remembered that Anderson, Wellock, Challinor, and Wild each filled more than one position.

The list of first team goal scorers was headed by Woods with 12 to his credit, the only other to reach double figures being Hetherington 11.

Don’t forget to check out our Facebook and twitter pages for the latest Supporters Club news. It is fortunate that we have some younger blood on our Committee, although as I keep saying, there is certainly room for more!19

See you soon,       Kit.
