FC Halifax Town defender Nathan Clarke believes his team weren’t good enough in the 2-1 defeat against Harrogate Town, which saw the Shaymen bow out of the F.A. Cup at the fourth round qualifying stage.

It was the second time Harrogate have beaten Town at The Shay this season, with Clarke noting that the team didn’t play to the standards they wanted to whilst describing how “disappointed” everyone is with going out of the competition.

“Gutted to go out of the competition,” he told Shaymen TV. “First half we weren’t at the races, made a fantastic start in the second half and I felt we were on the front foot, we had a couple of chances, just fell short unfortunately.”

Town again came up against a team that was happy to sit back and absorb pressure. Clarke feels that advancement is the key for the Shaymen.

“I think we’ve got to keep progressing,” he said. “We’re focused to get the wins, but today we just fell short.”

After the ferocious start to the season, for Clarke one goal in three games is evidence that the team has “hit a little dry spell.”

“We’ve got goals in the team,” he said. “It’s not just the strikers, it’s the whole team and we’ve got to look at different ways to mix it up.”

The Shaymen take a trip to fellow National League high-flyers Bromley next Saturday in a top-of-the-table clash.

“[I’m] looking forward to it,” said Clarke. “It’s one that will be tough. We will be looking for the win and trying our hardest for the three points.”
