MANarama’s September assessment:

The Shaymen’s month goes under the microscope

League sponsors Vanarama hope you will get involved as MANarama makes a very big return!

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly…

It’s not often three defeats in a month can still end the way it did! The super Shaymen ended September just a point off leaders Bromley – the club are showing it’s the draws that kill you, not the defeats.

What about the others in September?

You may have heard, but Yeovil aren’t doing too badly – they won all six last month but it was Bromley still leading the way. It’s not been too bad for Barrow either – five straight wins is their best run since 1968. Hot shot Boreham Wood striker Kabongo Tshimanga also managed to score six times and the only other winless club were Maidenhead, while Wrexham and Solihull didn’t have a good four weeks.

The high point?

Starting off the month with a win at Chesterfield will never go down badly – neither will ending it with a goal like that from Cameron King at Dover!

From the dug-out:

Pete Wild always tells it as it is. He said after the weekend win: “Let people keep writing us off – let people keep thinking we’ll slide down to midtable before long. We’re delighted with that.”

Stat attack:

Town are still the National League’s top scorers but the 2-0 win at Dover was in fact the club’s first clean sheet of the season.

How do things compare to last September?

Favourably! It was September when things started to slide last season. After an equally impressive August, the side just couldn’t get it together a year ago – the team didn’t win any of their seven matches, but did draw five of them.

Attendance watch:

Unsurprisingly, gates at up. September has averaged 2,156 through the Shay gates, with this time last year crowds stood at 1,704 for the month’s three home matches.

What does October look like?

It’s a trip to out-of-form Maidenhead next with two attractive home games against bottom side Chorley and Boreham Wood next up. Then it gets harder! A trip to leaders Bromley before a return to London a few days later with a game at Sutton United.
