Good afternoon, and welcome to you all. Firstly, congratulations to the winner of our August Player of the month, Liam McAlinden. His prize was awarded by Committee member Dave Crossley following the recent home game against Yeovil.
I would like to thank Manager Pete Wild and his assistant Chris Millington for giving up their time to entertain us at our AGM the other week. The conversation flowed well throughout the meeting, and the many in attendance will now have a greater understanding of how Pete and Chris work on team matters and get their ideas across.
This evening sees our annual trip to the Dog Racing at Belle Vue, which to remind you leaves the Shay car park at 6pm. There are still a few places available, so should you wish to join us at short notice, just speak to any Committee member. It’s too late to book a sit-down meal now, although there is no problem paying on the gate and eating a “takeaway” type meal inside the Stadium.
Thanks to everyone who has booked space on our “Play the Squares” programme page. There are very few places left now, so well done to all who have contributed, especially those selling places to other people. Our next task is to get you interested in the “Goal-o-meter” page, which allows you to sponsor sensible or ridiculous FCHT related happenings throughout the season. Virtually anything can be sponsored, so if you have ideas, just speak to the usual rabble; you know who we are!
Here’s a continuation of the previous extract from the “Halifax Town AFC Official History 1892 to 1922/3” handbook. It’s more information from the section about Division Three headed “How the Northern Section was formed”;
As well as Halifax Town, the other nineteen successful applicants comprised Ashington, Durham City, Hartlepools United, Darlington, Rochdale, Nelson, Accrington Stanley, Barrow, Wigan Borough, Southport, Tranmere Rovers, Stalybridge Celtic, Crewe Alexandra, Walsall, Wrexham, Grimsby Town, Lincoln City, Chesterfield and Stockport County, the last-named being the champions in the first season, thus regaining their lost Second Division status. Rochdale finished at the foot of the table, Halifax Town and Tranmere Rovers being their “whippers-in”. One or two of the clubs found it difficult financially to carry on in view of their increased responsibility, but overall the traditions of the League were nobly carried out.
