FC Halifax Town will entertain Yeovil Town on Saturday, Lewis Tomlinson caught up with Josh Staunton to get his thoughts on Chesterfield and look ahead to the weekend

Overall reflections on Tuesday’s reflections game against Chesterfield?

“I think at times in the first half we played some nice football and moved it around nicely, but I don’t think we were anywhere near our best. I think we did well to score and we probably could’ve had more, we had to dig in at times and not concede and it was important we went in with the 2-0 lead. It was vital we got the first goal after that because when they scored there was a big switch in momentum. In the end, I think we stood up well, and defended the box well. They were just pumping it long, they’ve got a big team. We ground out the win, we were nowhere near our best but it’s another three points on the road.”

How much difference is there in your role as a centre half, where you played on Tuesday, to when you’ve been playing in midfield earlier in the season?

“It’s a big difference. I think that was the first time I’ve played centre half for Halifax. It took a bit of getting used to, but I’m comfortable playing at centre back. There’s a big difference being part of the last line rather than protecting the boys in front, but it’s part of it.”

The hectic first month of the season is over, how do would reflect on how it’s gone overall for yourself and for the team?

“I think we’ve done well, very well. If you’d said that we’d have 22 points after the first month and the first name games we’d all be over the moon, and to be fair, I think you can say we didn’t do ourselves any justice with the draw at Aldershot and the loss at Wrexham. There’ll be times this season where we’ll have to grind out results on the road, so long may it continue.”

And finally we host Yeovil back down The Shay on Saturday, how will the lads prepare for that?

“We’ll just prepare like every other game. The gaffer will focus on us, we’ll do work on Thursday and Friday with the team, and hopefully we’ll go out with a clear plan on how to get at them. There’s things from Tuesday for us to work on, it wasn’t perfect, but we’ll take the three points and get back to The Shay!”
