Good afternoon, and welcome to you all. Plenty to get through this week, but I’ll start by congratulating Dave Crossley (Crocker) on his excellent interview for the Times newspaper. While it’s unusual for the national news to take much interest in what goes on at our level, at least the article gives the Shaymen some decent exposure at an opportune time.

This Tuesday sees our AGM in the South Stand Bar, and importantly our Open to Question guests are Manager Pete Wild and his assistant Chris Millington. The meeting starts with the AGM at 8pm; hopefully this part will last only a few minutes. Access is through the Shay’s main entrance, where someone will give directions to the meeting.

We are running our annual trip to the dogs following the Barnet match on September 21st, departing the Shay car park at 6pm. The Charabanc will again be heading across the Pennines to Belle Vue, the cost of travel being ยฃ10 per person. Admission and meals should be booked in advance through Belle Vue’s โ€œLove the Dogsโ€ website.

As the same week is half-term, our popular Football Quiz Night will take place at the Flying Dutchman pub on Boothtown Road the following Tuesday September 24th. Juveniles are welcome at this event, for which teams of four people are required, the cost being ยฃ10 per team. If you wish to participate but can’t raise a full team, please attend anyway, as there are bound to be plenty of other people looking to join in.

Here’s a further extract from the โ€œHalifax Town AFC Official History 1892 to 1922/3โ€ handbook. It’s a continuation of the section headed โ€œHow the Northern Section was formedโ€;

In the previous notes, we saw how the Third Division Southern Section commenced in 1920-21. A year later, the Northern Section had been formed under similar conditions to the Southern, with the exception that only twenty clubs were admitted, the full number being twenty-two, but power was allowed for to complete the full number when the moment appeared propitious. Halifax Town were the only Yorkshire club to be admitted to the new section, although Castleford Town were among the unsuccessful applicants. The other nineteen successful applicants will be revealed next match.

See you soon,ย ย ย ย ย ย  Kit.
